Stainless steel is a large group of materials, all of which have in common that the main element is iron (hence "steel") and the content of chromium (Cr) is at least 10.5%. In addition to chrome and iron, the steel can contain a wide range of other alloying elements. It can be, for example, nickel (Ni), carbon (C) and molybdenum (Mo). The various alloys are intended to improve either the mechanical and / or corrosion properties of the steel. In addition to improving the steel, the alloy elements have a bearing on the type or quality of the stainless steel. The same goes for the amount of chrome. Namely, it is the chromium content and alloys that matter to which group or type of stainless steel the product belongs. In total, there are 5 stainless steel types or grades: Austinite, Ferritic, Martensitic, Duplex and Super Duplex.
